New Porsche SUV could be called Cajun

Volkswagen AG CEO Martin Winterkorn said a new Porsche small SUV will be brought to market soon as part of plans to expand the sports car brand’s lineup to boost sales.

Winterkorn said Porsche will get “a new SUV, a smaller brother to the Cayenne which might be named Cajun.” He was speaking in an interview with German magazine Der Spiegel that was published Monday.

Volkswagen is taking over Porsche Automobil Holding SE’s carmaking operations as the companies build on a partnership that includes sharing vehicle platforms. Read more

Jens Walther follows outgoing Paul Ritchie

Atlanta Porsche Cars North America announced today that the Supervisory Board of Porsche Motorsport North America, Inc (PMNA) has appointed Jens Walther as the new President & CEO of PMNA, effective immediately. He succeeds Paul Ritchie who has decided to retire from the motorsports business. Walther (41) has been responsible for the management of Porsche’s One-Make Cup Program, which is made up of 19 national and international championships including its premium championship, the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. In addition, he coordinated all Formula One related issues for Porsche and its subsidiaries. Walther who joined Porsche in 2001 worked the first four years at Porsche Engineering Group GmbH as Manager, Marketing, Communications and Business Development. Read more

Stuttgart. Renowned US specialist journal “Car and Driver” has awarded the Porsche Boxster Spyder the title “best-handling car in America”. Thanks to its outstanding handling characteristics, the open-top mid-engine sports car from Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, asserted itself against six high-class competitors during the test drives at the Waterford Hills race circuit in Michigan. The top model in the Boxster series particularly impressed the experienced testers with its well-balanced chassis, its precise steering and its predictability, especially at the handling limits. Porsche unveils “Revive the Passion” webpage featuring PCA’s 1973 911T Coupe Restoration/Raffle Project

For the first time, Porsche Club of America will raffle off a fully restored classic – a 1973 Porsche 911 T.

A spectacular action for all lovers of classic Porsche vehicles: Porsche Classic is restoring a 1973 US version 911 T Coupé on behalf of the Porsche Club of America (PCA) under the motto “Revive the Passion”. The finished gem will be raffled off among PCA members and is to be publicly presented to the winner at the Porsche Parade in the USA in August 2011. Just this once, Porsche enthusiasts with a soft spot for oldtimers and youngtimers will be able to look over the shoulders of the Porsche Classic workshop specialists while they are working.
